Showstudio @ Liberty’s

Just thought I would share our snaps from the Showstudio camera that was in the window of LIberty’s last week. The idea is that London’s fashionable folk wonder by, take a pic of what they’re wearing and Gareth Pugh will judge the best dressed and they will win £500 in Liberty vouchers. Obviously we did not quite pose appropriately for that as it was on the way back from the pub, our friend Robert however, bottom pic, threw his heart and giant scarf into it. Bet Gareth picks him.

SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution

Today I braved the rain and headed down to Somerset House for the press viewing of SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution. For 10 years now photography legend Nick Knight has been pushing fashion boundaries and evolving a new genre of film, fashion film. SHOWstudio began pre mobile phones, pre picture messaging, pre blogs, pre web 2.0. Innovative then as much as it is now the team translated fashion to new mediums and opened up a whole new way of looking at, communicating with and participating in fashion. Engaging the audience and encouraging interaction seems only natural now in an age of blogging, MySpace and forums, but back at the beginning this idea of a website that could allow discussion in real time and invite contributors was fairly groundbreaking. The success has seen it grow and grow, welcoming collaborations from Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Naomi Campbell, Gareth Pugh, Kate Moss and Bjork. This exhibition, which will run throughout fashion week, celebrates its most successful and creative projects to date, embedding its message of interaction further with touch screen wallpapers, listening posts and a live studio set. There are too many amazing things in this exhibition to list them all but here are a few of the more ‘stand out’ pieces…

This massive re-creation of Naomi Campell is made from polystyrene using laser technology. Reminiscent of Andy Warhol’s Elvis Presley (1963), Naomi stands towering with a projected surface that can be designed by the audience.

Gareth Pugh shows us his perception on sentimentalism, glamour and spectacle in this video series of him transformed into a human disco ball and black show poodle.

Forget-me-Not, a project by Peter Saville and Julie Verhoeven, sees an erotic interactive wallpaper design for computer screens. Beautifully illustrated, the inspiration of 18th Century Toile de Jouy counterbalances the erotic danger that transpires through linear vignettes.

SHOWstudio:Fashion Revolution runs from September 17th- December 20th at Somerset House, Embankment Galleries. Tickets £5, concessions £4.
