London Fashion Week – Spring Summer 2010

It’s fashion time! This season celebrates both LFW’s 25th birthday and debut of the new venue of Somerset House – and it’s an inspired move. Here is the beautiful view from the rooms of the building where the exhibition and presentations take place – you can’t get more British and patriotic:

And here’s the fantastic new show space, the tent is where the ice rink is at Christmas:

The Caroline Charles show gets the award for most random selection of guests, Joan Collins and Boris Johnson!!

Favourite show so far – Bora Aksu:

Orla Kieley held a fashion presentation in a room of Somerset House, which featured a huge TV, magnificent views of London and champagne – along with the ability to see her wonderful designs up close at your own leisure. Fantastic. Presentations are the way forward.

Fun times at Fashion Week so far!!

Topman: The Menswear Shopping Emporium?

Compared to its bigger and better sister, Topshop, Topman has always lacked a certain charisma, yet a revamped floor design may finally be taking highstreet menswear to new levels.
In fact it quite literally is, as last night saw the new 23,000 square foot top level space revealed. With a whole official day dedicated to menswear this year at LFW, it’s clearly the week of the man. Fittingly then that Topman have decided to revamp their tired and rather bleak floor space into a brand new swanky hub of stylish fixtures and concession overloads! By this I mean there is an Eat Café, an Office ‘Trainer Boutique’, Rough Trade listening posts and recommended album chart (the first of its kind) and a UK Sharps Barber to keep all those beards and ‘taches under control!
Amidst these quirky features the space will house Topman’s existing ranges, designer collaborations which include TM Design, Lens, the new LTD range and also mainline collections from MAN designers James Long and Christopher Shannon. Oh and squeezing in just another new feature, the ‘Red Area’ will become a trendy new space for collections to hold base for a while and get customers familiar with the trend, picking up tips along the way on how to work and style it. Now there’s a shop floor worthy of a visit.

LFW Preview

Only one full day to go until it’s ridiculously high heels at the ready, statements bags on shoulders and networking frenzies! Yep London Fashion Week is very close. Dazed Digital have just exposed a sneaky peek to some of the designers inspiration for there S/S 2010 collections. Quite intrigued by Louise Gray. Hoping for a bit of chavtastic kitsch.
Louise Gray: “The collection is about a London babe, it’s inspired by my love for London. It’s ‘London trashbag chic’. Judy Blame will be doing accessories and Nicholas Kirkwood, shoes.”

Meadham Kirchhoff: ‘Purity. Illusion. Antiquity. Synthesized draping.’

Mark Fast: ‘An enchanted mystic Egyptian underground jewel.’

Emilio de la Morena: ‘Darkly romantic, fluid and sensual.’

Cooperative Designs: ‘Raw, crafted, graphic, abstracted textiles.’

London Fashion Week A/W 09

London Fashion Week A/W 09 was muchos fun, with the homegrown designers doing Britain proud and the complimentary wine in the press lounge going down a treat. Here’s a round-up in 8 easy pictures…
The Ashish show was definitely a highlight, taking place in the London Hippodrome, it was presented as a circus show and was tremendously entertaining, before the collection acrobats kept the fashion lovers entertained:
Then the vibrant, clown inspired (probably) styled collection was shown to the sounds of VV Brown, who played live:
The supermodels were out in force for the Qasimi show. Who? Why? were the questions running through most people’s minds. It turns out one of the Qasimi design duo is some sort of exotic Prince, hence, a lot of money, hence the presence of supermodels including Erin O’Connor, Lily Cole, Jasmine Guinness and Yasmine Le Bon. With husband Simon there to cheer her on from the front row:
Best Accessory of the Week – the giant hair bows at the Avsh Alom Gur show:
Best Celebrity Spot of the Week – Chris Eubank at the Jaeger show…yes really, that one,the excentric boxer…suggestions below as to what he was actually doing there (clearly not engrossed in the show judged by the pic I snapped) as I have no idea…
The longest catwalk – possibly ever seen – came courtesy of PPQ. They showed in the Burlington Arcade and the gloss was quickly taken off having a coveted front row ticket as it became clear there was only one VERY long row of seats. Still, front row is front row, irregardless of how many rows there actually are…
And here is a typical example of the glamour that is waiting for a show to begin. That’s me, fourth blonde up on the left, completely trapped in the PPQ scrum:
A good fashion day is rounded off with a party, essentially the most fun part of fashion week, PPQ had The Noisettes playing live at theirs, and lead singer Shingai Shoniwa was wearing a particularly fantastic yellow playsuit:
So that was my fashion week in a nutshell and I enjoyed every second. Roll on September!
