Mamie Gummer for Gerard Darel

Mamie Gummer is the daughter of one of my favourite actresses, Meryl Streep and she’s the face of the Gerard Darel A/W 09. You can see the family resemblance.

Favourite Ad This Season

Stella McCartney has enlisted the help of some cartoon friends to sell her wares for Autumn / Winter 09 and I like it.

Haute Couture A/W 09

With the economic downturn still very much on everyones minds, the couture shows were a slightly muted down affair this season. Mainly in terms of show presentation rather than reflected in the clothes though. Here’s a selection of my favourites:

CHANEL:

Key trends for A/W are the late decadent ’80s and early 90’s. Hard to work in the dubious trends of the early 90’s into a coututre show you would think – but obviously Karl manages it with his draping panels seen coming down the back of the dresses.

CHRISTIAN DIOR:

The bar is set very high for couture from the House of Dior. Christain himself set the path and its been brilliantly followed by John Galliano in recent years. For this season he has embraced bright colours and stripped the clothes down to their minimum, revealing the underwear, giving the collection a Renaissance feel.

GIVENCHY:

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER:

I love John Paul Gaultier, not only because he carved himself a serious fashion career while presenting Eurotrash on Channel 4 but because he always has so much fun – and this couture collection is just brilliant. The vague theme being Hollywood glamour throughout the decades, John gives us a beautiful mixture of inventive ideas.

Armani Prive:
As the face of Armani underwear, it seems Posh Spice has been used as the hair inspiration for this season’s Armani Prive collection. All the models looked suspiciously like Victoria Beckham wearing outfits that we will no doubt see her in very soon. The trouser reigned supreme at Armai Prive.

Ashish for Topshop A/W 09

We first glimpsed these amazing animal print wedges during the Ashish show in February and press days have revealed that they make up part of the Topshop A/W 09 collection – which means they might be within an affordable price bracket and we can all have amazing shoes come this Autumn. The more dramatic the shoe – prints, studs, fabrics, the better.

London Fashion Week A/W 09

London Fashion Week A/W 09 was muchos fun, with the homegrown designers doing Britain proud and the complimentary wine in the press lounge going down a treat. Here’s a round-up in 8 easy pictures…
The Ashish show was definitely a highlight, taking place in the London Hippodrome, it was presented as a circus show and was tremendously entertaining, before the collection acrobats kept the fashion lovers entertained:
Then the vibrant, clown inspired (probably) styled collection was shown to the sounds of VV Brown, who played live:
The supermodels were out in force for the Qasimi show. Who? Why? were the questions running through most people’s minds. It turns out one of the Qasimi design duo is some sort of exotic Prince, hence, a lot of money, hence the presence of supermodels including Erin O’Connor, Lily Cole, Jasmine Guinness and Yasmine Le Bon. With husband Simon there to cheer her on from the front row:
Best Accessory of the Week – the giant hair bows at the Avsh Alom Gur show:
Best Celebrity Spot of the Week – Chris Eubank at the Jaeger show…yes really, that one,the excentric boxer…suggestions below as to what he was actually doing there (clearly not engrossed in the show judged by the pic I snapped) as I have no idea…
The longest catwalk – possibly ever seen – came courtesy of PPQ. They showed in the Burlington Arcade and the gloss was quickly taken off having a coveted front row ticket as it became clear there was only one VERY long row of seats. Still, front row is front row, irregardless of how many rows there actually are…
And here is a typical example of the glamour that is waiting for a show to begin. That’s me, fourth blonde up on the left, completely trapped in the PPQ scrum:
A good fashion day is rounded off with a party, essentially the most fun part of fashion week, PPQ had The Noisettes playing live at theirs, and lead singer Shingai Shoniwa was wearing a particularly fantastic yellow playsuit:
So that was my fashion week in a nutshell and I enjoyed every second. Roll on September!
