A Single Man by Tom Ford

Here’s the trailer for designer Tom Ford’s directorial debut, A Single Man. He not only directs but wrote the screenplay, he’s a talented chap. The film stars Colin Firth and the brilliant Julianne Moore and the trailer looks very sleek and stylised but we wouldn’t expect anything less from Tom. The film will be screened during the London Film Festival on 16th October.

What with Coco before Chanel, The September Issue and now Rage, going to the cinema is becoming quite a fashionable affair. The latest, Rage, is Sally Potter’s new film which sees a school boy use his mobile phone to shoot people at a New York fashion house. Secretly posting the items on the internet, what starts as something innocent results in the unveiling of an industry in crisis only further dragged down by an untimely murder investigation from a runway accident. Jude Law (looking surprisingly natural in drag!), Lily Cole (great with blonde hair), Dame Judy Dench and Eddie Izzard are just a few of the big start names to appear in Rage which takes on a unique style of filming whereby monologues in front of the camera see each actor in isolation, shot close up against eye-popping flat color backgrounds. A unique screening took place last night where a live satellite broadcast the film to select cinemas across the UK. A live Q&A session follwed for the world’s first multi-venue interactive premiere.

Luella Goes Crazy for Owen Plummer

A new collaboration with Zine creator, publisher and illustrator, Owen Plummer has injected a little bit of multi-coloured youth to Luella tees, bags and brooches. Currently on display at the Brook Street store, the quirky crazy prints and doodled designs are a far cry from the more ‘grown up’ collection and Minnie Mouse shapes that Luella showed us on Monday at LFW.

Unseen London Fashion Week

We’ve all seen the pics that circulate the web and yes Christopher Kane, Topshop and Luella were amazing but not ones to follow the crowd we thought we’d share a few of the more random and special moments of LFW.

Bistrotheque cafe & bar at 180 The Strand. Amazing slices of cake and great tacos.

The black and white Union Jack’s that hung proud around the venue. Very ‘anti-fashion’.

Not quite Posh (who we thought may be in the parked car behind the tent) but Mr. Walliams no less looking rather suave!

The Matches stand at LFW designed by the brilliant Gary Card. The bright garish colours looked great set against the palatial courtyard of Somerset House.

From behind- our man taking us in the complimentary Rickshaw to the pop up Armani cafe on St. Martins Lane. Poor waiter misunderstood our order 3 times! Result- 3 free Armani cocktails. Yum!

Future Classics SS10

A true gem of a collection in my eyes, beautifully draped with lots of big snood/hood hybrids for a middle eastern inspired silhouette that remained young, fresh and edgy with stripes, prints and bold splashes of optimistic orange and yellow. Think re-construction in it’s most elegant form with lots of asymmetric detailing and segmented shapes. Backs were cut short and high for a flirty silhouette that worked great with the chevron striped stockings!

Louise Gray definitely wins my vote for best display. Love the wire mannequins…

Orla Kiely Spring Summer 2010

Presentations took over my schedule this year for fashion week. With many offering plenty of champagne and treats it seems presentations are on the up. A favourite was Orla Kiely where her signature palette of ochre yellows, soft mushroom taupe’s and biscuit browns were updated for summer with red and pink and cute sailor inspired prints. Beautiful campaign images made for very collectable postcards!
