Happy Birthday Madonna!

Today the ‘Queen of Pop’ turns 51! Although her recent musical direction is not exactly my favourite, the genius of her back-catalogue cannot be argued with. Here’s a clip of her performing Like a Prayer from the 1989 Blonde Ambition tour. Happy Birthday!!

Mamie Gummer for Gerard Darel

Mamie Gummer is the daughter of one of my favourite actresses, Meryl Streep and she’s the face of the Gerard Darel A/W 09. You can see the family resemblance.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s On Stage

This September you can see a stage adaptation of one of the most fantastic and stylish films ever, Truman Capote’s classic romantic yet slightly sinister tale starring Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
It’ll be hard to fill Audrey’s shoes but Anna Friel (famous for being in Brookside back in the day and being one half of primetime TV’s first lesbian kiss) is going to give it a go and from 9th September 2009 you can pop down to the Theatre Royal Haymarket and see for yourself.

What’s this…. cocoperez.com??

It seems that Perez is expanding his blogging empire and throwing his two-pence into the most cluttered blogging arena going – fashion! Cocoperez.com (see what he’s done there…) is his new venture and he’ll run it simultaneously with perezhilton.com but it will focus on fashion / celeb stories. I guess by having two sites he can get more clicks from readers and that’s what it’s all about but ….the whole Perez brand has been pissing a few too many people off in recent times so I doubt that his fashion blog is gonna be the first place people turn to, unless PR’s bum him enough and send him muchos exclusives.

Summer Holiday Sorted

For some unknown reason I get press releases from Butlins and this one is for their new Spa hotel opening in the legendary Bognor Regis. I feel I have to mention this for this sentence:

Ocean Hotel, named after the iconic Butlins hotel in Saltdean, Brighton, has seven storeys and features disco lifts, singing showers and even a snow cave – one of only two in the UK .”

Firstly, said Ocean hotel in Saltdean was randomly where I went every Saturday morning when I was little for swimming lessons and secondly, DISCO LIFTS, SINGING SHOWERS AND A SNOW CAVE??!!!! What the heck is a snow cave???? I don’t know but I’m bloody going to find out. Good work press release.
I found this picture of the singing shower. Amazing.

Heath’s Final Film

Here’s the trailer for Heath Ledger’s last film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, directed by ex Monty Pythoner Terry Gilliam and I can’t wait to see it, as not only is beautiful Heath there but after his terrible early death a trio of eye pleasing actors stepped in to complete his part. Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law, well, not so fussed about that slag Jude Law but the others are delicious. The plot is probably quite interesting too.

Oh no! This baby elephant fell in a hole!

It’s alright though, he was helped out of it by a kindly passerby.

My Trip To Dublin

Here’s a visual feast of the lesser seen sights in Dublin’s fair city, starting with my Gran’s fantastic trinkets. First up, her collection of bells and rug/plant combo in front of the fireplace:

I’ve never seen sooooooo many amazing knitting patterns, my Gran is kindly rustling me up an 80’s jumper at this very moment, probs not the one in the pic though:

What’s an evening with relatives if it doesn’t involve a game of Scrabble?

EVERYONE who goes to Dublin takes a picture of this shop:

I don’t know if I would use a pic of someone that looks suspiciously like Jacko (R.I.P) to advertise my beauty salon…

The schizophrenic weather conditions, that it has to be said, did lean heavily towards precipitation:

It’s true, the post-boxes are green. Imagine that. Fun times all round.

Dance Inspiration

She-Wolf, the new video by Shakira…..where to start with this new amazing piece of work ??! Well, probably with the ONE-LEGGED CUTOUT CATSUIT, first seen when she’s performing inside a giant-size replica of the human stomach but knowing that not much else is gonna compare to such a fashion statement, used shamelessly in a second scene, the obligatory dancing in a night club one.
She does manage to sneak in the Michael Jackson Smooth Criminal gravity defying lean at one point too, although she is cracking out moves here that Jacko would never have dared to attempt. The video does have some Thriller undertones and does look like it’s supposed to be an 80’S homage video – but I have a sneaking suspicion it is nothing of the sort and in fact is just really rubbish but DEFINITELY crossing into the so-crap-its-brilliant category.

Anyway, all this is cut with the ‘sexy’ cage dancing scenes, where Shakira might well look like she’s naked but when you look like you’re possessed by a particularly rubbish stripper it goes from a titillating segment to pure comedy perfection.
And just when you thought this couldn’t get any better it cuts to her dancing in front of a picture – picture – of a New York skyline, displaying a dance routine we have not seen the likes of since you made up ones with your friends in the school playground.

She may use unorthodox moves but she sure is bendy. Basically, this is the best video that doesn’t feature my arm, that I’ve seen in a long time. IT’S COMEDY GENIUS.
